Which lab work services are available?

LTH Family Medicine offers on-site lab work to diagnose the cause of acute or chronic symptoms and to assess the nature of underlying injuries.

While Kashaelyn typically meets with you in your home or through a virtual telemedicine appointment, she may request that you come into the office for lab services like:

  • X-rays
  • Throat cultures
  • Urine testing
  • Cholesterol checks
  • Blood glucose evaluations

Kashaelyn also provides lab work like sexually transmitted disease (STD) screenings and Pap smears to assess the general and reproductive health of adult men and women.

When would I need lab work?

You might need the lab work that LTH Family Medicine offers if you’re not feeling well and need a diagnosis of symptoms like:

  • Pain
  • Sore throat
  • High fever
  • Shortness of breath
  • Gastrointestinal discomfort

Kashaelyn may also request lab work as part of your routine preventive care plan to identify acute or chronic diseases in the earliest stages.

For instance, if you have risk factors for Type 2 diabetes because of your lifestyle or family history, you may need routine bloodwork to evaluate your blood glucose levels even if you don’t have unusual symptoms.

Lab work is also useful in monitoring the effectiveness of medications you take to manage an acute illness or chronic disease.

How do I prepare for lab work?

Depending on what type of lab work you need, Kashaelyn provides guidance ahead of time to help you prepare for your test.

In some cases, you may not need to do anything specific in advance of your testing. However, if you’re getting bloodwork to screen for diabetes, Kashaelyn may recommend not eating or drinking for several hours before your test.

She might also request that you delay or stop taking certain medications before you visit the LTH Family Medicine office for lab work.

After your lab work is complete, Kashaelyn reviews the results with you. She discusses any treatments you need and offers chronic disease management services if your tests identify diabetes, high cholesterol, or other chronic conditions.
